Biography

Joanna Marlowe
I'm a British-born, New York-based photographer working at the seam between street and documentary. My pictures are about people — the ones who never know they're being photographed, and the few who agree to stand still for ninety seconds and let me look.
I started with a borrowed camera and a city I couldn't afford to live in. I've since shot for editorial, fashion and brand clients across four continents, published three monographs, and kept the same habit I began with: walking, every day, until something true happens in front of the lens.
Approach
No flash, no setups, no direction on the street — just one camera, one lens, and the willingness to wait. The work is in the walking.
Selected
"The camera is just an excuse to keep looking."— Joanna Marlowe
